If you want to be surprised, come to Siberia and Lake Baikal in summer. It will be so warm and sunny as you never expect from the place with such a cold reputation. Lake Baikal and Siberia are really special during this season. You will enjoy the fresh breeze air of Baikal, hot sun and stunningly beautiful nature. You will walk through taiga forest by the Great Baikal Trail, ride a cruise ship to the world's capital of shamanism, Olkhon Island, and see Baikal Seal (nerpa) habitation site (rookery). Try delicious meat, hit yourself by birch branches in Russian banya (sauna), and visit hi-tech scientific stations and old Buddhist temples. The tour combines the most interesting activities available in summer.

Departure from Irkutsk • Taltsy museum • Shaman Rock • Chersky Hill • Omul-fish market

Departure from Irkutsk city center

We pick you up from any place in Irkutsk and start our tour.

Visit open-air wooden architecture museum

Taltsy museum is alive Siberian village of the end of 19th century. It has a school, watermill, real ostrog (wooden kremlin), several yurts and other buildings of the past centuries. All these buildings have their internal expositions, telling the stories, connected with them.

Shaman Rock, visit the viewing platform

Shaman Rock is a special stone in the middle of the Angara river headwaters, flowing from Lake Baikal. Here we tell you stories dedicated to this special place.

Chersky Hill Lookout Point

Chairlift to the top of the hill with breath-taking view to the lake and mountains at another side.

Visit omul-fish market

We see how Omul (also known as Baikal Salmon) is smoked, and buy, if you want.

Check-in at hotel in Listvyanka

After check-in you have free time. It could be shore walks, boat riding, visit to Baikal Seal show or even swimming!

Listvyanka • trekking by Great Baikal Trail • Arrival in

Departure from Listvyanka.

We load our belongings to the boat and then hike for 18 km by the Great Baikal Trail.

Start of trekking by Great Baikal Trail

We take our small backpacks at this point and start walking part through taiga forest. First up- and then downhill, then following the rocky trail by the shore, built by volunteers from different countries. We stop for a lunch at sand beach, where you can swim while the guide is cooking meals on fire.

Arrival in Bolshiye Koty

We come to the village at evening, and stay at "Lesnaya 7" Guesthouse. Dinner (included) and Russian sauna ("banya", optional). Free time after.

day 3

Bolshiye Koty • Peschanaya (Sandy) Bay • Arrival in Khuzhir

Departure from Bolshiye Koty

Today we head to Olkhon Island, a special holy place at the lake. We have a private cruise ship (up to 15 persons) transfer to Khuzhir settlement. Lunch and snacks during the ride.

Stop at Peschanaya (Sandy) Bay

We have a stop at one of the most beautiful places here, Sandy Bay.

Arrival in Khuzhir

We come to the village at evening, and stay at the guesthouse (or hotel). Khuzhir is located in central part of the island. It is convenient to travel to any place of the island from here. Just next to the village is Shamanka Rock, the most energetic place where local shamans still carry out their rituals. We see many colorful ribbons attached to 13 polls, symbolising the most powerful family of Eagles, lived at the island long time ago. This place is still very important, considered as the world's capital of shamanism. Many people say it has special feeling. You will have free time after the walk to the rock. Dinner (included) and Russian sauna ("banya", optional). Free time after.

Khuzhir • Ushkan islands • Khuzhir village

Breakfast, start of the sightseeing program. Today we heading to the Baikal Seal habitation place, Ushkan islands!

Arrival in Ushkan islands

We spend at the island two hours, and then lunch on the ship. Ride back to Olkhon island.

Arrival in Khuzhir village

You have free time after the trip to seals. Dinner at 19-00 (included). Traditional 'banya' - Russian sauna after (optional, not included).

day 5

Olkhon island • Kharantsy cape • Peschanka settlement • Cape Sagan-Khushun and Rock of Three Brothers • Cape Khoboy (Tusk) • Khuzhir

Breakfast. Start of jeep tour.

After the breakfast we will start our tour to the most northern point of Olkhon island by UAZ, Russian military jeep. It is the main way of transportation here.

Kharantsy cape and village

We pass through the village where the airport served local flights to and from Irkutsk. The airport is still maintained by one family, which holds that mission since middle of 20th century. "Kharantsy" means "watcher", that is why we see great views from the cape. We stop at Crocodile and Whitish islands for great photos. From here you can also see a face of wise and old man, formed by the mountains at another side, it is considered as the face of Lake Baikal.

Peschanka settlement

We see beautiful views to the village and old wooden pier made for fish factory, a part of Stalin times political prison (GULAG). The settlement has only one family, living all year round.
Cape Sagan-Khushun and Rock of Three Brothers

This is one of the most beautiful spots of the Northern Baikal, the cape is formed from light-color marble, covered by lichens. This is also the widest part of Lake Baikal, about 80 km. We tell you local legends about shamans (people who are able to speak with spirits) and some mysteries of the lake. Here you can feel yourself as a tiny part of The Universe.

Cape Khoboy (Tusk)

One of the most beautiful places of the lake, where local people met sunsets and prayed to spirits for their kindness. If the weather allows, you can see another shore and hilly Holy Nose peninsula, located at eastern coast. There is also Deva (Woman) Rock, which was turned by the legend into the rock to save her from greediness. You feel here that the lake is really alive. We have a lunch here, which is traditional fisherman soup, cooked on fire (included). After lunch we leave severe but beautiful cliffs and head back to the village.

Arrival back in Khuzhir

We arrive in Khuzhir. Free time. It is possible to visit sandy beach, rent a bycicle, have a short walk or just relax. Dinner at 19.00 (included).

day 6

Olkhon island • Irkutsk

Departure to Irkutsk

Departing back to the civilisation, but just for an evening. Stop for a lunch on the way (not included).

Arrival in Irkutsk

We arrive in Irkutsk and drop you off at the hotel. Free time.

day 7

Irkutsk • the most southern point of Baikal • Badary observatory • Arshan town • Crater of a dormant volcano • Zhemchug village • Irkutsk

Breakfast, start of sightseeing program.

Stop at the most southern point of Baikal

We stop at the top of the hill with a breath-taking view. It is the southern end of the lake, and also point where we see new and old Transsiberian parts at the same way.

Badary observatory

Badary is scientific station, where Siberian physicists do the research of solar activity. Over 200 satellite dishes move following the Sun all day round. The cross formed by them is so big that it could be easily seen on Google Maps. We walk here, enjoying the harmony between Science and Nature.

Arshan town, famous mineral water resort

All the way through the valley we are followed by high Sayan mountains and finally we come to their roots. Arshan is located right at the bottom of these mountains, and it is a good place for walking and hiking. We take a short hike to the waterfall, see 500-year old larch tree, taste healing mineral water, and , of course, bargain at local crafts and herbs market.

Lunch with pozy

Pozy are meat dumplings, cooked on steam. It is a native buryat meal, symbolising wealth of the yurt (ger). Local cuisine is based on meat, which is one of the best in the world here, because cows here are grown in natural way, not at farms.

Crater of a dormant volcano

Volcanic activity at Tunka valley was not stopped at all. We see several dormant volcanic hills along the road and visit one of them, which was mined. This is a unique chance to see volcano from the inside.

Zhemchug village with hot springs

After Arshan we're coming back to the main road, heading to the Mongolian border pass, and drive about 20 km to Zhemchug village with hot springs, opened all year around. It is also a good opportunity to see simple life of Buryat people. Temperature of hot springs is +55C, recommended bath time is 10-25 minutes. Please take swimming suit and towel!

After recharging of our internal "batteries" we start our way back to Irkutsk.
