About this tour

Lake Baikal is a boundless place, and you can explore it not only by car, but also on foot. This tour is a great opportunity to discover Siberian taiga forest, covered lake shores. We will climb on top of Khamar-Daban mountains, Chersky Peak, from where it is possible to see Lake Baikal and small Lake Heart in the mountain valley.

day 1

Irkutsk • Slyudyanka • Meteostation

9:00

Departure from Irkutsk

We will pick you up at any place in the city and start our tour. We will tell you about contruction of Transsiberian railway and dam, white marble and other minerals production, and development of Irkutsk. Our start of the trek is a small town of Slyudyanka.
12:00

Arrival in Slyudyanka

Lunch at cafe (not included, expect to pay 150-200 rub), stop at the train station building, which was built from white marble, then start of the trekking. The trail goes up, to mountains.
18:00

Arrival in camp

After 4-6 hours of walking (depending on your fit), we will arrive to the weather station building. It used to be the old cargo road, going to Kyakhta, town at Mongolian border. Dinner, cooked on fire, free time and, if there are no clouds, stars at night sky.

Breakfast

After the breakfast we take our backpacks and go to the top (1A category, easy), which takes about 2-3 hours. From the weather station there is a good trail for 2,5 km, a part of an old road, then trail goes by the edge and comes to the top.

Chersky Peak and Lake Heart

We see Lake Baikal and snow tops of Khamar-Daban and Sayan mountains from here. If we will have some more energy, we can visit Lake Heart. The legend says that the Giant Khaman-Daban lived alone till old age and wanted to find a wife. Soon he found a beautiful but greedy woman, daugher of The Forest Host of Mangi. They married, but she wanted more, so she found Baikal, and went to his harem, left Khamar-Daban alone. The old giant did not overcome that, and took his heart from his chest, that made a crater, when felt to the ground, and tears of the uphappy giant became the water in the lake.

Arrival in Slyudyanka

We will come back to Slyudyanka around 17-00, from there we will drive to Irkutsk, having dinner on road (not included).

We will arrive in Irkutsk around 22:00.
