About this tour

During this tour you will drive by the scenic Great Baikal Road, visit view point at the mountain, Baikal Sanctuary, located in Tankhoy, where you will see museum of Baikal fauna, walk 4 km by the beautiful nature trail in the forest of Baikal taiga, most of the year surrounded by picturesque snow peaks. You will see some part of Siberian wildlife here. About 30 km away there is a bird ringing station, which will give you an understanding of the research of bird migration and population changes (availability depends on the season). At the end we will visit the sable enclosure, where you will see one of symbols of this region, Barguzin sable, very cute and smart animal.

Southernmost point of Baikal

After 100 km we arrive at the lake. Here we see its southern corner and two parts of Transsiberian railway, it's place to learn a little (or more) from the history of its construction. After the breakfast we start our journey by the Great Baikal Road, going by the shore line of the lake.

Visit to Sable Mountain viewpoint

We come to the top of the mountain by chairlift (not included) and see a beautiful scenery from the top of the lookout point.

Tankhoy Sanctuary

Arrival to Tankhoy sanctuary. We explore museum at the visitors center, located close to nature trail, and dedicated to the forest inhabitants.

Tankhoy Nature Trail

After we will have a relaxing walk by wooden nature trail for 4 kilometers exploring the taiga forest.

Bird Ringing Station

We arrive to the Baikal Protected National Park and visit the bird ringing station. We see some birds trapped into the the hands of scientists, doing counting and research of their population and migration. This is one of the oldest bird ringing stations in Russia.

Departure from Tankhoy

After the walk we will head back to Ulan-Ude or Irkutsk, depending on your route.

Arrival to Uland-Ude / Irkutsk

Arrival to Ulan-Ude (200 km), we will drop you off at any place in the city. Arrival to Irkutsk around 22-00 (250 km).
